Why Limousin?

Limousins are a genetic source of larger weaning weights and muscle mass while maintaining relatively low birth weights. Limousins are known for their muscular build, feed efficiency, ease of management and comparable calving ease to other breeds.

Ease of calving

Ease of calving is one of the traits upon which the Limousin breed was founded & relative to growth, the Limousin breed remains a leader in calving. Limousin calves have low birth weights, which lead to minimum calving problems when Limousin bulls are used over cows of other breeds.

Meat Tenderness

Limousin meat is both tender and low in saturated fats as well as cholesterol. Unlike other breeds which rely heavily on marbled fat (Research has shown that marbling has less than a 15 percent effect on tenderness and palatability) the high levels of tenderness found in Limousin meat is due to its finely textured muscle fibres.

Bax Black Limousin

Bax Black Limousin was established by Dennis and Jane Bax in 2006 at Wauchope on the Mid North Coast of NSW . We chose Limousin for their higher yield and ease of calving.  With that in mind we purchase females from  both Froghollow and Kensal studs with the view to breeding quality black limousin cattle. We have sourced semen from North America and through our embryo work we now have two Homo Black Homo Polled Sires of our own ready for 2010.

Our  aim is to breed Homozygous Black Homozygous Polled limousin cattle that are structurally sound with high growth rate and good docility. The Homo Black gene will give the commercial grower the guarantee of Black progeny. The Homo Polled gene will produce Polled cattle and give greater safety within the herd and when yarding the cattle for both man and beast alike. We believe that Polled cattle will become a requirement to meet OH+S standards in the near future

Bax Black Limousins are, by choice, a small stud, who are producing quality young bulls and females that will be an asset to any breeding program.

Go to any sale and you’ll see just how important uniformity is and nothing is more uniform than heavy muscled black cattle and Black Limousin genetics have both of these things. Limousin-influenced cattle provide the solid colour pattern buyers look for.

Yield:

Limousin is recognized as an industry leader when it comes to yields and its leaner cuts of beef and excellent muscle growth efficiency have made Limousin meat a staple of the modern market. High meat to bone ratios and low fat leads to outstanding yields of sale-able meat from Limousin cross carcasses. Yields of up to 80% of sale-able meat are not uncommon.
